What Color is Your Maca?

What Color is Your Maca?

Opportunities to improve our health through supplements are boundless. We thought we’d share one of the less well-known suggestions: maca.

Maca is an herb from the Andes mountains of South America where it grows at 12,000 to 14,000 feet elevations. It’s an exceptionally rare herb that’s been shown to help the body deal with stress, anxiety and fatigue. It does so by affecting the adrenal glands, where your body’s adrenalin is produced.

And it comes in different colors. Research over the last fourteen years has demonstrated that there are many different phenotypes of maca that have different effects. The red maca is considered the strongest in energy-promoting properties as well as the ability to balance blood glucose levels. Black maca is best for influencing memory and learning.

There’s much more to learn about maca, and you can do so here. This article is scholarly and contains a lot of technical information. But it can also help you understand whether maca is worth considering for you – and if so, what type.
