Go Frozen!

Go Frozen!

Building a healthy lifestyle often starts with what we put into our bodies. However, sometimes it is hard to do so on a budget. But there are many ways to eat healthy and not break the bank.

Choosing frozen fruits and vegetables is one great way to lower your grocery bill. Did you know, whole foods that are frozen can be up to 50% cheaper than fresh foods? Frozen items are often picked at the peak of freshness and can have higher quantities of nutrients and vitamins. Some healthy and nutritious foods to buy frozen include:

  • berries and other fruits
  • green beans
  • corn
  • peas, lima beans, and edamame
  • broccoli and cauliflower
  • fish and seafood

You can make so many things with frozen fruits and vegetables including smoothies, stir-frys, soups, homemade fruit or yogurt bars, curries, and more. As always, when buying any frozen foods, especially frozen meals, it is important to check the nutritional label so that you are aware of what and how much of something is in your food.

Nutritional facts are general guidelines. You should make decisions on what is best for your lifestyle and overall health. But keep in mind, the key to a healthy lifestyle is balance so it is ok to treat yourself sometimes.

Some other ideas to explore to reduce costs of healthy eating include:
