Heart Disease: Still a Risk for Americans – Especially in the Time of COVID-19

Heart disease remains the largest cause of death in the U.S. According to the Center for Disease Control:

  • One person dies every 36 seconds in the United States from cardiovascular disease.
  • About 655,000 Americans die from heart disease each year—that’s 1 in every 4 deaths.
  • Heart disease costs the United States about $219 billion each year from 2014 to 2015. This includes the cost of health care services, medicines, and lost productivity due to death.

If you’re concerned about COVID-19 and heart disease, the American Heart Association can help. They offer information for essential workers, for those self-quarantining and otherwise hunkering down in their homes, and they have answers to many other questions about COVID-19, especially for those with heart disease.
